Cloud workload placement decisions increasingly factor in the carbon intensity of the regional power grid, not just latency and cost, as more providers expose this data directly in their planning tools.

Reporting energy metrics with the same rigor applied to cost metrics makes efficiency an ongoing engineering discipline rather than an annual reporting exercise, and creates accountability for the decisions that actually move the number.
